EAP Services for Supervisors
The EAP can be a valuable resource for supervisors and employees when personal problems negatively affect an employee's attendance, performance, or conduct. Supervisors should be altert to patterns of deficient or declining performance or conduct because this could indicate an uderlying personal or medical problem. The EAP counselor can coach the supervisor in the most appropriate ways to intervene with the employee and refer him/her to the EAP for consultation. EAP sessions are confidential; however, for supervisory referrals, the EAP counselor will request the employee's written permission to communicate to the supervisor a verification of attendance and progress in sessions.

We will also help you access other organizational experts to help with problem resolution such as Employee Relations/Labor Relations, Health Unit, and Office of Alternative Dispute Resolution.

New supervisors are encouraged to take several courses offered by the On-line Learning Center, including “Survival Skills Workshop for Managers,” to learn more about motivating employees to perform at their highest level of productivity. Current supervisors and managers will find other courses applicable to their training needs at the same site.

The EAP is also an important partner with the agency's security workforce in the prevention of, and intervention in, workplace violence incidents; assistance in continuity of operations planning (COOP) and the delivery of critical incident stress debriefings; and assistance to employees during agency restructuring.
